UM motorcycles Renegade Commando and Renegade Sports S Launched in
UM Motorcycles is a US-origin motorcycle manufacturer making street bikes, dual sport bikes and cruisers, which are sold in markets such as South East Asia and Latin America. In India, UM Motorcycles has entered into a joint venture with Lohia Auto, to manufacture a new range of cruisers for the Indian market. Both the Renegade Commando and Renegade Sports S of UM Motorcycles are differentiated between them in their respective styles, though they enjoy the same mechanical specifications. The single-cylinder, water-cooled, 279 cc engine delivers 24.6 PS at 8500 rpm and 21.8 Nm of torque at 7000 rpm. The transmission is carried out via a six-speed gearbox. Features such as wide handlebars and hydraulic telescopic suspension at front and spring at the rear make it an ideal cruiser for day-to-day riding. UM International, in alliance with UP-based Lohia Auto, has invested 250 crore for expanding its presence in India. Manufacturing is already underway at Lohia Auto’s Kashipur facility in Uttarakhand. The bikes are priced in the 1.49 – 1.59 lakh range (ex-showroom, Delhi). The company also announced that the bookings will commence from today across India. For now, sports bikes are not part of UM’s plans in India, considering the market for sports bikes is saturated with high quality products from several manufacturers and breaking into that market will be difficult. For now, the company will focus only on cruisers, but will be looking at upgrading to 400cc and 500cc V-Twin engines in the next product upgrade cycle. The Facebook page of UM Motorcycle India shared image that explains new dealerships.
